Mountain View, California – January 31, 2024 – Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) announced today the promotion of Ursula Williams to president and the move of Barry Asin into the role of chief analyst. This restructuring offers greater alignment of responsibilities as well as enhanced positioning for SIA’s future plans.

Williams joined SIA in 2015 and has served as chief operating officer since 2019. She played a pivotal role in navigating the company through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, her leadership has proven instrumental in not only executing the company’s growth strategy and expansion, but also in delivering outstanding results for clients, employees and the overall business. In her new role as president, she will take on the responsibility for day-to-day SIA operations and will focus on further accelerating the research firm’s growth strategy.

“Stepping into the role of SIA president is truly an honor. I look forward to taking on this new responsibility and I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our organization and the clients we serve,” Williams said. “We have a strong team and remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering on our mission to inform, connect and elevate the entire staffing and workforce solutions ecosystem as the leading research and advisory firm in the space. As president of SIA, I look forward to collaborating with Barry, as our new chief analyst, and the entire SIA team propelling us to new heights.”

Asin joined SIA in 2003 and has served as president since 2010. As chief analyst, Asin will focus on developing SIA’s thought leadership, conference content, long-term strategy and product development.

“Ursula is an experienced, growth-oriented executive and I am excited to have her leading this new phase in the development of SIA’s business and organization,” Asin said. “As the next step in SIA’s ongoing transition and strategic plan, we look to further expanding SIA’s reach across staffing, the workforce solutions ecosystem and the world of contingent work. We believe this realignment of responsibilities will help SIA capture the opportunities ahead and maximize our ability to serve our clients.”

Crain Communications, a leading business news and information company with 24 media brands, acquired SIA in 2008 and has supported its robust growth efforts across membership, research capabilities, and staff. Particular focus has been placed on technology’s impact on the staffing industry and surrounding workforce solutions ecosystem. SIA has also added to its enterprise buyer-oriented Contingent Workforce Solutions (CWS) Council team, providing a full slate of SIA research, peer support and advisory services to human resources and procurement executives in Fortune 2000 companies.

“Barry and Ursula have done an incredible job leading SIA,” said KC ޾ֲ, president and CEO of Crain Communications. “As we plan for growth at this brand, this leadership transition creates additional prospects to remain on the leading-edge.”

Capitalizing on those new opportunities is already in motion. The company is featuring a pop-up event just ahead of its Executive Forum North America this March called the Staffing Tech Summit. Additionally, SIA is further sharing its research through a variety of thought leadership and speaking engagements.

What happens in Vegas may typically stay in Vegas, but Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) is breaking that rule just this once to share some amazing news. The global research and advisory firm hosted its annual Healthcare Staffing Summit on Nov. 1-3 in Las Vegas, hitting the jackpot with a record-breaking turnout of over 1,400 attendees as well as 76 sponsors and exhibitors.

Smashing attendance records for the second year in a row, the summit explored The Next Generation of Healthcare Staffing. SIA President Barry Asin kicked off the event with a timely discussion on artificial intelligence plus many more tech and non-tech transformations poised to influence the world of work. LeaderLogic CEO and Bestselling Author Nick Webb’s keynote provided insights and actionable steps on the new body of science around Chaotic Innovation.

In a first-ever collaboration, Modern Healthcare President Dan Peres participated in a Healthcare Staffing Summit leader panel. Moderated by CWS Council Vice President Dawn McCartney, panelists examined how healthcare systems are evolving. Additionally, Asin moderated two stellar executive panel discussions on the conference main stage featuring an impressive list of healthcare staffing titans.

Another highlight of SIA’s sold-out event was the TED Talk-style Executive Perspectives session moderated by SIA Chief Operating Officer Ursula Williams. Former NICU Nurse and 2022 L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Honoree Shannon McPeek took the audience for a walk inside nurses’ shoes. Butler Street Managing Partner Mike Jacoutot imparted his mastery of AI-driven sales skills. And Serviam Care Network Chief People Officer Mary B. Lucas passed on timeless wisdom from the smartest man she ever knew – her father, the butcher.

The Healthcare Staffing Summit heads to Arlington, Texas for November 2024 where SIA rolls the dice on a brand-new hotel and meeting space. The SIA team feels confident their luck will continue into next year!

Crain Communications has partnered with Michigan State University as the exclusive media sponsor of Ignite the Future — a program that will work to improve diversity in the communications field, with emphasis placed on Michigan businesses.

The program will provide resources for first-generation college students to ensure successful outcomes and improve representation across the communications industry. Ignite the Future is an expansion of the Ignite Summer Bridge program, which helps students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds attending MSU’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences transition from high school to college.

Sponsor partners and Ignite the Future students will engage in mentorship and learning opportunities via internships, special projects, guest lectures and more to help make the transition from college to career. There will be a cohort of students every three years.

“We’re proud to partner with MSU on the Ignite the Future program,” said KC ޾ֲ, President and CEO of Crain Communications. “Representation matters, and our team is excited to work with the students, university and other partners to create opportunities and shepherd the next generation of professionals into our businesses.”

޾ֲ is a Diamond Partner of the program. Other partners include MSU Federal Credit Union (Diamond Partner), Ally (Gold Partner), Rocket Mortgage (Gold Partner), Martin Waymire (Silver Partner), and United Wholesale Mortgage (Bronze Partner).

“In ComArtSci, we are thinking big about what it will take to increase diversity both in higher education and in the communications industries where our students go to work,” said Teresa Mastin, Interim Dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. “The launch of Ignite the Future is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our alumni and corporate partners, who share our vision of creating transformative opportunities for these exceptional students.”

Ignite the Future is structured around a family of initiatives, each designed to enhance students’ educational experience, social well-being, and career opportunities:

  • Ignite Pathways: A comprehensive pathway initiative encompassing high school pathway programs and a summer bridge program to ignite students’ interest in ComArtSci majors while facilitating a smooth transition from high school to MSU.
  • Ignite Cohorts: An immersive cohort initiative that offers tailored mentorship, coaching, academic planning, career exploration, and experiential learning opportunities. This approach fosters a sense of belonging and ensures academic success throughout students’ time in ComArtSci.
  • Ignite Careers: A dynamic, career-centered mentorship and support initiative in partnership with ComArtSci alumni and local corporations, dedicated to guiding recent graduates towards a promising career trajectory.
