GRAND RAPIDS, MI, April 17, 2023— Crain Communications today launched ޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business ().

The media brand will provide thousands of readers with timely, in-depth and contextual news and information about West Michigan business.

In addition, ޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business will expand its reach into the community with a full slate of live events that help business leaders and community members engage and network in meaningful ways.

޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business was created from the consolidation of the Grand Rapids Business Journal and MiBiz, both of which Crain Communications acquired in 2022.

“When we entered the West Michigan market with the acquisitions last year, we said we were committed to giving readers and business partners the most comprehensive news and information about the Grand Rapids region,” said KC ޾ֲ, president and CEO of Crain Communications. “Today is a special day in that we formally launch the new ޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business brand to deliver on that promise.”

The expansion into Grand Rapids marks ޾ֲ’s fifth city brand, serving alongside ޾ֲ’s Detroit Business, ޾ֲ’s Chicago Business, ޾ֲ’s New York Business and ޾ֲ’s Cleveland Business.

While the Grand Rapids news team will provide comprehensive coverage of the market, strong emphasis will be placed on the topics of real estate, health care, manufacturing, finance, technology, law and the food industry.

“The news team we have assembled in Grand Rapids is spectacular and I’m excited for our readers to see the stories they deliver,” said Mickey Ciokajlo, executive editor of ޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business and ޾ֲ’s Detroit Business. “This team has deep roots and vast connections in West Michigan, which is so important in local journalism today.”

The news team is led by Editor Joe Boomgaard, who previously served as editor of MiBiz. Working alongside Boomgaard are Managing Editor Andy Balaskovitz, who held the same title at MiBiz, and Special Projects Editor Tim Gortsema, who previously was editor of the Grand Rapids Business Journal.

Jill May will oversee the sales operation as director of sales and events, reporting to Lisa Rudy, publisher of ޾ֲ’s Grand Rapids Business. May previously oversaw sales for the Grand Rapids Business Journal. Matthew Chaffee, who was the marketing coordinator at the Business Journal, will serve as events and marketing coordinator.
